8 Things To Do in Amsterdam Oost
January, 15th 2020
Amsterdam’s various neighbourhoods are increasingly distinctive communities of their own as the city continues to boom. Youseum has been open for a couple months on the Amstel River now, and in that time our team has assembled a shortlist of our favourite things to do in Amsterdam Oost.
1. Hortus Botanicus
Start your day in Amsterdam Oost at one of the most eye-catching green-spaces in the city. Beautiful sights and beautiful snaps are to be found and created here, and we think it’s a perfect way to start your day in the east.
You’ve got your share of flora, why not fill up on fauna then too? Artis Zoo is one of our absolute favourite things to do in Amsterdam Oost, and for good reason. It’s got penguins, giraffes, and tigers, great spaces to sit and take in the beauty, and it’s even got a rich history, too.
Got your fill of wildlife photography? Swing by the cosiest cinema in Amsterdam Oost with an even cosier cafe. Enjoy a coffee, or a beer, and people-watch among the artists, students, and hipsters that frequent this haunt.
4. Brouwerij ‘t IJ
This is one of the most famous things to do in Amsterdam Oost. Let’s say that you grabbed a beer at Kriterion, and you’re in the mood for another one. Let’s say you’d like to see one of those Dutch windmills that everyone’s talking about. Then we recommend that you head to this Amsterdam brewery’s location right on the water.
Looking for a traditional museum that’s anything but? The Tropenmuseum boasts anthropological artefacts and tells the story of Dutch and world history, and features frequently rotating special exhibitions. The perfect way to spend an hour or three.
6. Generator Hostel
The Generator Hostel is just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Tropenmuseum and is the perfect place for a coffee and a snack, or a night’s stay for an out-of-town guest. And if it’s getting late, check to see whether the nightclub beneath the hostel has a party on!
7. Bar Bukowski
Check out this classic but trendy neighborhood bar that East Amsterdammers flock to on weekends and through the week for a drink and a chat with friends. The bar’s literary namesake perfectly encapsulates its laid-back and intellectually curious atmosphere.
Last but not least, be sure not to miss the newest interactive museum in Amsterdam. One of our personal favourite things to do in Amsterdam Oost 😉 Youseum is perfect for groups big and small who want to pose, laugh, play, discover, and explore 🔵
